Volkswagen teases ute concept for São Paolo

Sub-Amarok pickup to combine MQB underpinnings will spawn production model focused on Brazilian market.

Volkswagen has released a single teaser image of an unnamed pickup concept bound for the 2018 São Paolo motor show, which kicks off on November 6.

Dubbed a “near-production concept vehicle”, the ute previews an upcoming vehicle destined for the South American market – namely Brazil – which will sit below the larger and more rugged Amarok in the company’s line-up.

The German brand has confirmed the ute concept will combine “urban SUV elements with the DNA of a cleverly conceived pickup”, based on a version of the ubiquitous MQB platform which underpins the vast majority of Volkswagen’s passenger car and SUV range.

Volkswagen says the concept will be headlined by its “multivariable’ load area”, which can be “significantly extended” by folding the rear panel of the double cab.

The MQB-based concept ute will feature 4Motion all-wheel drive system, and is likely to showcase the company’s latest connected infotainment features – going by its press release where it mentions the ute offering the features of a “digitally networked SUV”.

Following its preview in São Paolo next week, the ute concept will spawn a production model scheduled to hit the Brazilian market “in the forseeable future”.
