Kjeld Nuis won’t be familiar to the majority of readers, but he won two speed skating gold medals at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, topping 60km/h in the process.
The result, which we won’t spoil, required a special suit, a towable deflector to create a slipstream, a car with an on-board minder and a frozen lake in Sweden – not to mention months of planning, practice and sleepless nights.
Swedish touring car racer, Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky, piloted the Seat Ateca lead car. She needed to maintain a perfectly straight line and accelerate at a very deliberate pace, which is no mean feat on sheet ice.
Check out the record run in the documentary above, and let us know what you think in the comments.
