This week, two mid-sized SUVs face off. They even look similar…
The McLaren 540C has taken down the Audi R8 V10 RWS in our latest poll, although it was a close-run thing.
Although neither is technically an ‘entry-level’ car, the two entry points to supercar ownership in their respective ranges recently duked it out in a comparison, with the RWS sneaking out on top.
“If that looks like something of a draw on merit between two very different horses for courses, then perhaps it is. Each player in this niche of a niche sub-genre will endear itself to one buyer or another, purely because these are machines of pure indulgence, and that alone ultimately polarises when it comes to buyer tastes and preferences above any rationale,” said Curt in concluding the comparison.
“But it’s ‘budget’ and ‘everyday’ parts of the term ‘budget everyday supercar’ where the R8 RWS fulfils all requirements more emphatically. And takes the win in this twin test.”
Our audience on Facebook clearly disagrees, with 55 per cent of the 1000 respondents preferring the twin-turbo V8 McLaren to the rear-drive, V10 Audi. Turns out the British brand has people power on its side.

THIS WEEK’S POLL
MG has just released the HS, to be known as the GS locally, as its latest crack at the mid-sized SUV game. Given it looks a bit like the Mazda CX-5, this seems like a match made in heaven. Can the Chinese car sway you, or is the CX-5 too pretty to ignore?

Facebook is doing silly things with its embedded media, as the poll options are no longer appearing above. For now, if you’d like to vote, head to our Facebook post. Otherwise, stay tuned for the results next week.
