Polestar 1 Prototype starts production

Swedish-Chinese electric flagship due to go on sale mid-next year.

Polestar, Volvo’s performance arm, has started prototype production of its upcoming Polestar 1 model.

Construction of the first batch of 34 road-going verification prototype (VP) took place in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Series production however, is set to take place at the new Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China.

The initial fleet will be used for purposes such as crash-testing, weather testing and on-road assessments.

The Polestar 1’s weight-saving carbon-fibre body necessitated the development of new equipment and production techniques, which will be developed in Gothenburg and then transferred to the production plant in Chengdu.

Thomas Ingenlath, chief executive officer of Polestar said, “the assembly of the VP cars means that the Polestar 1 has taken its next step towards production.”

“This first batch of 34 cars will enable our engineers to tune the finer details of the car, ensuring that the Polestar 1 is perfect when we start to produce customer cars in the middle of next year.”
