Maserati Levante GTS coming Down Under for MY2020

The 404kW SUV will be making the journey, but you’re going to have to wait a while.

Maserati has confirmed the Levante GTS will be coming to Australia, but it’s still a long way off touching down.

The 404kW super-SUV won’t be here until late in 2019, with Maserati confirming it’ll be available for the 2020 model year.

“From the moment the V8 Levante was hinted at, let alone revealed in the USA, we have had clients wishing to put their name down for the ultimate Maserati SUV,” said Glen Sealey, chief operating officer of Maserati Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Now that it has been confirmed for our market I have no doubt that the pace of people wishing to own a Levante GTS will only speed up. Given that the Levante GTS is over a year away, it is too early to provide local pricing or specification.”

Power in the GTS comes from a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 making 404kW and 730Nm, developed in collaboration with Ferrari. As you’d expect of a performance SUV, that grunt is put to the road through an all-wheel drive system (dubbed Q4), while an eight-speed ZF gearbox is standard.

There’s a mechanical limited-slip differential on the rear axle, too, for better power down. The 100km/h sprint takes a claimed 4.2 seconds, and you’ll be doing 292km/h flat out.

Design wise, the car borrows heavily from the Levante Trofeo. That means you get more aggressive front- and rear bumpers, along with a set of spindly-spoked 22-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the car gets a revised infotainment system, while the pictured vehicle has its seats finished in a particularly fetching shade of red. Sports pedals and a 14-speaker audio system are standard, along with a revised shift pattern for the automatic transmission. It’s the little things, right?

Pricing and specs for the GTS will be announced closer to launch.
