Three years on the trot for the Prancing Horse
Ferrari has scooped International Engine of the Year for the third year running, beating out Porsche and Tesla (yes, really) for the honour.
The 3.9-litre bi-turbo V8 from the 488 GTB, GTB Spider and Pista scored 486 points from the judges, comfortably beating out the 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine in the Porsche 911 (198 points) and the 6.5-litre V12 from the Ferrari 812 Superfast (158 points).
It’s the third year in a row the Ferrari V8 has taken the title. With 530kW and 770Nm on tap in its most powerful guise, the engine was described as an “engineering masterclass” by the judges.
Along with the overall title, there are plenty of other supplementary awards on the International Engine of the Year billing. The remaining winners, and their categories, are listed in the table below.

Winning three years in a row isn’t unheard of, but it’s very rare – only Ford and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder have achieved the feat before.
