HSV Silverado 3500 specs confirmed

Heavy-duty pick-up boasts 2.2-tonne payload and can tow up to 9000kg.

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has confirmed specifications of the new Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD LTZ pick-up truck, which commences conversion production in Clayton, Victoria, later this month.

Priced from $147,990 before on-road costs, the heavy-duty Silverado offers a payload of 2.2 tonnes, and a braked towing capacity of a whopping 9.0 tonnes.

To compare with one of the most popular dual-cab utes on the market, a Ford Ranger Wildtrak fitted with the new 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel offers a payload of 961kg and can tow up to 3.5 tonnes.

Additionally, the smaller Silverado 2500 claims a payload of 875kg/975kg (LTZ/WT) and a maximum towing capacity of 5.89 tonnes.

Like its smaller sibling, the Silverado 3500 is powered by a 6.6-litre turbo-diesel V8 making 332kW of power and 1234Nm of torque, sent to the ground via an on-demand four-wheel drive system, heavy-duty locking rear differential and a six-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of equipment, the 3500HD LTZ largely mirrors the 2500HD LTZ, meaning you get stuff like perforated leather seats with 10-way power adjustment, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a larger 8.0-inch MyLink infotainment system which also includes Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, along with a seven-speaker Bose audio system.

Model-specific features for the larger version include dual rear wheels, a longer tub, smoked amber roof marker lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/80 Michelin LTX all-terrain tyres.

Options include a spray-in bed liner ($1500), along with the two prestige paints on offer – Cajun Red and Deep Ocean Blue – which ask for an extra $1100.

Further the 3500 specification announcement, HSV has confirmed it will offer two alternative compliance options for the smaller 2500HD version of the Silverado, boosting the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) to 4600kg on both LTZ and WT variants, while maximum payload will be increased to 985kg (was 875kg) for the LTZ and 1085kg (was 975kg) on the WT.

Opting for the new compliance options demands holding a Heavy Vehicle driver’s licence, and owners must adhere to the relevant conditions required of that licence.

The Chevrolet Silverado is available to order through HSV now.
