With adaptive Fox shocks, for even more off-road prowess
Ford USA has announced a slew of changes for the 2019 F-150 Raptor, headlined by a new set of electronically-adjustable shock absorbers.
A new set of Fox Racing Shocks is hooked up to a set of sensors capable of reading the road and adjusting their behaviour to suit. Ford even says the truck can sense when it’s in the air and prepare for landing, minimising the risk of bottoming out upon touchdown.
The Raptor senses when you’re driving aggressively and firms things up, but the general ride should be more supple when you’re just cruising around town.
Also added to the spec sheet is Trail Control, which is essentially a form of off-road cruise control. Drivers can set speeds up to 20mph (32km/h) and the car will automatically maintain it, automatically braking/accelerating to get over tricky obstacles in the way.
Land Rover and Toyota both offer similar systems, so Ford isn’t really breaking new ground, but it’s likely a useful touch nonetheless.
You’ll be able to tell the updated Raptor from its older brethren by its wheels – bead lock compatible – and optional Recaro bucket seats. Three new colours have been added to the palette: Ford Performance Blue, Velocity Blue and Agate Black.
Power still comes from a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine making 336kW of power, hooked up to a 10-speed automatic transmission which has been retuned to deliver smoother shifts on the fly.
The F-150 is a US-only proposition, making the upcoming Ranger Raptor the closest thing we can get.
