What wins: light weight or big power?
Both the Ariel Atom and Audi RS6 are fast, although they both go about it differently. Where the big RS6 Avant relies on huge power and prodigious traction off the line to nail its acceleration figures, the Atom is all about light weight and careful throttle management.
Power in the big Audi comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine making 445kW and 700Nm, put to the road through a quattro all-wheel drive system. The Atom, on the other hand, draws on power from a supercharged engine making 260kW – but it weighs just over 500kg.
The race is quite close, with the RS6 getting a jump off the line before the Atom starts to reel in the gap.
Which is quicker? That’s a very good question. Watch the video above to find out!
