It’s still coming, but we still have some waiting to do
The first all-electric, mass-produced Audi – the e-tron – has been snapped on the Nurburgring, continuing the long buildup to its full launch later this year.
Here’s what we know about the e-tron, which officially launches on August 30. In prototype form, it offers more than 500km of range on a full charge, and hits 100km/h in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is limited to 210km/h – all of which is similar to the Jaguar I-Pace, the car’s most natural rival ahead of the Mercedes-Benz EQC and BMW iX3.
Thanks to 150kW charging, the car will run from 0-80 per cent in just 30 minutes, too. All of this is part of Audi’s plan to ‘revolutionise mobility’ and become top dog in the world of e-mobility.
When it’s revealed in August, the e-tron will lead a revolution including a coupe-style e-tron Sportback, an e-tron GT from Audi Sport and an all-electric compact model.
We know the last car listed will use the Volkswagen Group Modular Electric Toolkit (MEB), just like the I.D. range coming from Volkswagen itself. Just like the current MQB platform behind much of the Volkswagen Group, it’ll be available in versions for small, medium and big cars.
By the time 2025 rolls around, Audi wants to be selling 800,000 pure-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles annually.
