Refreshed light hatch range headlined by shuffled model line-up along with the availability of turbo power and AEB.
Kia Australia has officially released pricing and specifications details for the refreshed 2019 Rio range, which is on sale from $16,990 before on-road costs.
The outgoing Si and SLi variants have been replaced by the Sport and GT-Line locally, with the entry-level ‘S’ remaining unchanged for the new model year.
Standard kit on the base Rio S includes rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, two Isofix child seat mounts on the outboard rear seats, a six-speaker audio system, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There’s still no sign of active safety kit like AEB and lane-departure warning on the base model, though it does come with six airbags and your standard electronic aids like ABS and ESC.
Power continues to come from a 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine making 74kW (@6000rpm) and 133Nm (@4000rpm), mated to either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic in the entry-level grade.
Stepping up to the Sport (from $17,990 drive-away) brings cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather trim for the steering wheel and gearshift, along with electric folding mirrors.
The Sport also offers the option of a six-speed automatic transmission (from $18,990 drive-away) for the 1.4-litre atmo four for the first time.
Finally, there’s the new GT-Line, priced from $21,990 drive-away. Key upgrades include a new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol making 88kW and 172Nm, mated exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, along with a GT-Line body kit, LED daytime-running lights and position lights, LED tail-lights and LED fog-lights.
There’s also autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist fitted as standard for the top grade, in addition to idle stop/start technology for the 1.0-litre engine), though in-built satellite navigation and climate control air-conditioning have been dropped from the range entirely for the new model year.
As with all Kia models, the MY19 Rio range is covered by the company’s seven year, unlimited kilometre warranty with seven years of capped-price servicing and roadside assistance.
