New hatchback to offer numerous personalisation options
The next-generation Audi A1 has been teased again, this time showing one its new alloy wheel designs and a brief view of its front quarter panel and headlight unit.
Posted to the Audi AG Facebook page, the moving GIF image is accompanied by the caption: “As individual as you – fit your all new #Audi #A1 with rims, roof and spoilers in different colors. #TheNewAudiA1 #EpicModeOn”.
Audi’s latest teaser indicates the new A1 will offer a range of personalisation options, including contrasting roof and spoiler finishes, along with an array of alloy wheel designs in various finishes.
Considering one of the little Audi’s key rivals is the Mini Hatch, having a good amount of colourful options is almost a prerequisite.
Earlier this week the four-ringed marque gave us a glimpse of the A1’s dashboard, which will offer the new MMI Touch infotainment system and Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster for the first time.
The previous teaser (above) showed a hand tracing out the word ‘Barcelona’, indicating the new hatchback will be revealed in the Spanish city.
Not a whole lot of other details have been released officially, but we know the new A1 will finally make the switch to the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB A0 platform, which already serves as the basis for the Seat Ibiza, Volkswagen Polo, and Audi Q2.
Thanks to the new underpinnings, you can expect the new model to offer the latest driver assistance systems that aren’t available with the current car, along with the company’s new net-based infotainment and connectivity services.
Additionally, the A1 should be significantly more practical thanks to its modular architecture – the new Polo’s growth over the previous iteration should serve as a guide.
In terms of motivation, the A1 should utilise a range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines as per its MQB A0 brethren, ranging from 1.0- to 2.0-litres in capacity.
There’s also talks of a flagship performance model – though it’s unclear whether it will be called S1 or RS1, perhaps Audi will offer both – which could draw from the hi-po 2.0-litre turbo and all-wheel drive running gear from the Audi S3 and Volkswagen Golf R.
